Project: Lehmann B Smith 'Girlfriends' 2012
Role: Recorded, Mixed.
From Sensory Projects website:
Girlfriends is the third album release from Lehmann B. Smith, his first for Melbourne label Sensory Projects (Lost Animal, New War, Love Connection, Pets With Pets, The Ancients..).
Girlfriends finds Lehmann at the top of his game, delivering twelve watertight pop tunes with the sort of style and panache of a musician many years older. The songs were written by Lehmann between 2007 and 2010, recorded in 2011 with James Cecil (Super Melody, Architecture in Helsinki) behind the desk, mastered by Casey Rice (MUM SMOKES, The Ancients, Dirty Three) and produced with the help of the ‘Lehmann B. Smith Choir’; Lehmann’s little harem of angelic voices.
Despite his experimental pop leanings, Lehmann pulled it all together to produce a set of whip-smart songs, from the bombastic opener I Spy The Morning to crowd favourite I Believe, and the gospel/blues/soul inspired Cry.
Lehmann B., with his songwriting never better, a devilish grin and the personality of a cad, is the man to watch in 2012, and on Girlfriends, his genius has been crystalised.
